How to Grow Melons

Planters Jumbo is a great tasting cantaloupe that has a firm rind, smooth heavy netting, and thick deep orange flesh. This melon is 7x6" diameter, 4-4.5 lb. and is Powdery and Downy Mildew resistant. The Piel De Sapo is an oval melon from Spain. This mottled green-yellow skinned cantaloup is 7-9 lb and 8-12" long. The Piel De Sapo has a sweet pale green to white flesh that is tender and a very hard rind. This common European and Spanish market grower is a fine keeper.

The Sakatas Sweet is a beautiful and sweet oriental melon that grows no bigger than a softball! With a harvest weight of 10-12 ounces, the gray-green skin ripens yellow-green with a soft green flesh that is highly aromatic. This melon is fun to grow and does well on a trellis. After harvest, Sakatas Sweet can be stored for a few weeks. This variety has been grown in the East for centuries and is now making an appearance in American markets. The Delicious 51 Melon produces heavy yields of early ripening, delicious fruits! This melon is a reliable producer of 2-3 lbs. fruits with heavy yields. This variety is known for its sugary flavor and aromatic smell. The juicy, perfectly sweet flesh is dark orange with creamy texture and a strong sugary flavor. Delicious 51 has thinner skin than other hybrids, but holds well for market and in storage. This variety has excellent resistance to powdery mildew and is well-adapted for northern growers.
