Pumpkin

An autumn staple, pumpkins are grown for both decorative and edible purposes. Pumpkins come in many shapes, sizes, colors and uses. From carving to baking you will find several varieties that will meet your needs.

Dating back to the 1700's, the Connecticut Field is one of the oldest American pumpkin varieties around! This large variety can grow 15 to 20 pound globes that are flattened on the ends. This old favorite will usually average 12 inches in height and diameter. The Connecticut Field's rind is hard but thin and slightly ribbed with a sweet, thick and course flesh.

The White Flat Boer Ford is a true white pumpkin that is perfect for autumn displays! This variety grows to be 3 to 5 inches high and spreads 8 to 12 inches wide. This flat pumpkin can weigh between 10 to 15 pounds! The White Flat Boer Ford has deep ribs that makes for an appealing autumn display, but it also has a delicious eating quality for its aromatic, succulent, and sugary flesh.

Just like its name, the Halloween Pumpkin, or also known as the Jack'O Lantern, is the perfect porch decoration for Halloween! This variety is also a popular pumpkin standard. Halloween is an easy to grow pumpkin that will give you greatest patio decoration around!

The Small Sugar's thick, sweet flesh makes it a great choice to use in cooking and baking! This variety is an older, smaller pumpkin that is excellent in pies. Small Sugar is very fine-grained, sweet, sugary and keeps well.

Captain Jack is an extra-large, dark orange Jack O’Lantern-type pumpkin. Its thick flesh and flat bottom enables the fruit to stand on its own. Extremely large, thick embedded handles match the large size of this pumpkin. Large and vigorous plants can support several fruit. Grows to 35-45lbs. in size.

The Spookie Pumpkin is a very uniform pumpkin with a great tasting inside. This high yielding, dark orange pumpkin grows to be 6-8" around, weighing about 5-6 lbs. Spookie is a cross between Sugar Pie and Jack O' Lantern, with vines yielding very uniform, excellent quality fruits that make for a great cooking and decorative pumpkin.

The Big Max is the largest pumpkin for carving faces or novelty. The nearly round, 17-18 in. in diameter, fruits average 100 lbs. Big Max has a slightly rough red-orange skin with a bright yellowish-orange 3-4 in. thick flesh. This pumpkin variety is a large exhibition type that is also good for pies or canning.

The Lady Godiva is such an attractive pumpkin to add to any garden! The naked-seeded pumpkin seeds are hull-less making them perfect for roasting. The Dickinson is a smooth large pumpkin perfect for pies! The large buff colored rind is an attractive addition to any pumpkin patch or garden. Fairytale is a traditional pumpkin variety from the south of France. This gorgeous, big flat fruit is heavily ribbed and looks similar to large wheels of cheese. This pumpkin averages 20 lbs. and ripens to a rich brown when fully ripe. The deep orange flesh is very fine grained, one of the best for baking! Long season.

The Hooligan is a small bicolored Jack Be Little hybrid with orange and white mottled colors. This pumpkin variety only weighs a 1/4 of a pound! Hooligan's vines provide excellent cover for high yields of fruit.

The Musquee de Provence Pumpkin is a big, flat and heavily ribbed beautiful variety that ripens from green to a deep brown. This 20 pound beauty has a tender, deep orange flesh that has a wonderful flavor when roasted or cooked into soups and stews.
