Growing Instructions

Celosia is a vibrant, easy-to-grow annual flower that adds bold color and unique texture to flower beds, borders, and containers. Its feathery or crested blooms make an eye-catching addition to the garden and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies throughout the growing season.

Before Planting: Plant Celosia in the spring after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. A good rule of thumb is to plant Celosia at about the same time you plant tomatoes outdoors.

Planting: Plant Celosia in full sun in well-drained soil. Space plants according to the variety to allow for good air circulation and healthy growth. Celosia also performs very well in patio containers.

Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist while plants become established. Once established, Celosia is fairly drought tolerant, but it will produce the best blooms with consistent watering. Water around the base of the plant to help keep the foliage dry.

Fertilizer: Feed Celosia every 3–4 weeks with a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer to encourage vigorous growth and continuous blooming.

Days to Maturity: Celosia typically begins blooming about 70–90 days after planting from seed and will continue producing colorful flowers until the first frost with proper care.

Harvesting: Cut flowers when the blooms are fully developed for fresh bouquets or allow them to dry naturally for long-lasting dried flower arrangements. Frequent harvesting encourages additional blooms.

Tips: Celosia thrives in full sun and warm weather. Remove spent flowers to encourage continued blooming throughout the season. Avoid overwatering or poorly drained soils, which can lead to root problems.
