Shop and grow herb seeds and plants for home gardens. Urban Farmer has trialed several herb varieties to find the highest quality plants. Our herb seeds have high yields, easy to grow, and have great flavor.

Sylvestris is native to Argentina and is often called Woodland Tobacco. A good producer of leaves, but today is best known for its large trumpet shaped white flowers. The leaves have a nicotine content averaging 3.9%. Flowers appear on top of a 3-4 foot high stalk in 45-50 days, rising above the leaves and often form a cascading white waterfall effect. Sylvestris is a striking addition to any flower garden.

Bucak was developed in Turkey from a flu cured, bright leaf Virginian tobacco imported in the 1930's from the US. It grows to 5' in height with large heavy leaves densely spaced on the stalk, and matures in 50 days. Averages 20 leaves per plant, 12"-14" wide and 22"-26" long. It tolerates heavy rains and wind well and will withstand early fall frosts with little or no damage. It air cures easily to a light brown.

The Plain Leaf Chervil resembles Italian parsley in appearance, but has a stronger, sweeter flavor that is often paired with tarragon, chives and parsley. This Brussels winter type is a vigorous plant with a subtle warm flavor that is excellent in fish and chicken dishes or light sauces and dressings.

NB 11 is a Burley tobacco developed in New Brunswick Canada. The pant reaches a height of 5' to the crows foot with 14 - 16 very thick and heavy weight leaves. The pyramidal plant form and low height gives it excellent resistance to wind and heavy rains. Maturity and blooming occurs at about 65-70 days with the leaf ripening about 10 later.

The Persian Basil produces beautifully large and amazingly delicious bright green leaves that will enhance just about any dish! You will love having this beauty grow in your garden and so will pollinators as it is also a very attractive ornamental plant. Enjoy the zesty Persian Basil in any soup, pasta or salad. This variety is a prolific producer.

Harrow Velvet is a medium flavored Burley with excellent curability and a short aging time. It has a columnar plant form with tightly spaced leaves which are very uniform in size. Almost no suckering. Leaves grow to 24" inches long by 14" wide when mature. Will go from green to golden yellow when fully mature. Leaf cures to a medium buckskin brown. An excellent plant for priming or to cut and hang whole. Very good wind resistance.

Comstock Spanish is an heirloom variety classified as a cigar binder but also makes an excellent wrapper. It was developed in Wisconsin in the late 1800's after the civil war. It is believed it was developed from Wisconsin Havana Seed but was called a "spanish" variety, named after a pioneer grower. It grows to a height of 4 1/2' with leaves 12"-14" wide and 24"-26" long. Maturity is in 45-50 days. Plants average 20-22 harvestable leaves which are strong and have good elasticity when cured. The leaves droop downward with down turned edges when ripe.

TN 86 is a medium-to-late-maturing cultivar at about 80 days, that has more leaves and a more upright growth habit than other burley cultivars. TN 86, is the first burley tobacco variety having good resistance to TVMV and TEV diseases. TN 86 was released by the University of Tennessee as a commercial cultivar in 1986. The new cultivar, which is also resistant to black shank, black root rot, wildfire, and most strains of potato virus Y. TN 86 consistently out yields other burley cultivars. The cured leaf is generally reddish-tan in color and has great smoking quality.

Lancaster Seed Leaf, grown extensively around Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and is classified as a cigar filler. But its large leaves make it a good binder or wrapper as well. Cures to a deep brown color. The upper leaf can produce excellent "Pennsylvania maduro," for pipe blending. Yields an average of 3 ounces of cured leaf per plant. Days to Maturity: 55-60, Plant Height: 50-60", Leaf Count: 17-19.

The American 14 Tobacco is Bright Leaf tobacco variety that is imported from Ukraine that will produce 30 leaves per plant. This variety is a tall plant reaching 6' or more in height and is drought tolerant and sunburn resistant. Each American 14 leaf can reach 30" long and 15" wide.

Walkers Broad Leaf is an heirloom cigar variety dating back to the 1880's, said to have originally been developed from the Maryland Broad Leaf. It grows to 6' in height and matures in 55-60 days. The leaves are from 12" to 16" wide and 20" to 24" in length, turning a light green and mottled when ripe. It can be used as a wrapper, binder or filler.

The Lettuce Leaf Basil has very large, hand sized, creased leaves that resembles a lettuce leaf, but has a great traditional basil flavor! This great production basil variety is favored among farmers and people who like a lot of basil due to its yields produces lots of foliage.
