Virginia 116 is a bright leaf Virginia Gold variety which grows to 4 1/2 feet in height. Good disease resistance. It produces an average of 19 leaves when topped, excluding bed leaves. Leaves are up to 24" long and 12" wide. It gives good yields, and turns light yellow as it ripens in around 65 days. Easy to air cure and dries a bright golden yellow. It is mild to smoke and is an excellent choice for a cigarette tobacco or in a pipe.
Virginia Gold is a well known heirloom variety dating back well over 50 years. It grows to a height of 6'-7' with low suckering. The light green leaves are from 14" to 18" wide and 24" to 30" long, and turn a light yellow when ripe. The plants produce an average of 18 leaves per plant below the crows foot, with yields averaging 3 oz of dried leaf per plant. Matures in 55 days.
Havana 608 is a cigar filler or binder tobacco. It grows to 6' closely spaced leaves and matures in about 65 days. The leaves are a very bright green and upturned with slightly down turned tips. It holds up well during inclement weather and the pyramidal shape gives it good wind resistance. The leaves turn a light yellow green with yellowing at the edges when ripe. Plants average 20 harvestable leaves per plant, and are 14"-16" in width and 20" long. Air cures to a medium brown.
Corojo 99 is a hybrid decedent of the original El Corojo seed from Cuba in the 1930's. It is sometimes called a sister of Habano 2000. Corojo 99 is larger and much more disease resistant than the original strain, but still produces a dark brown silky grained wrapper with with a rich spicy cedar aroma. It is one of a few wrappers that does well in both sun or shade. The plants grow to 7-8 feet in height and produce 18 - 20 leaves on average. Maturity is 75-80 days from planting.
Connecticut Shade leaf produces some of the finest cigar wrappers in the world. Does best and produces the best leaf when grown in the shade. Grows to over 9' in height producing 26-28 leaves. The plants are very uniform and have little to no suckering. The leaves are a light green averaging 12" x 18" and turn a mottled yellow as they ripen.
Cuban Criollo 98 is one of the most valued strains for Cuban cigars. It originated from a crossing between the varieties ' Havana 92' and `Habana P.R'. Cultivated in the sun it produces from 14 to 16 useful leaves per plant and makes an excellent binder. It reaches an average height of 6 feet. Leaves average 24 inches in length and 12 inches wide. It is resistant to the Blue Mold, the Blackish Paw and the Tobacco Mosaic Virus and moderately resistant to the Environmental Necrosis.
