Fragaria virginiana, commonly known as the Virginia or Wild Strawberry, is a native North American species that played a key role in the history of cultivated strawberries, having been crossed with the Chilean strawberry (F. chiloensis) in the 18th century to produce the modern garden strawberry. Sequoia is one of our favorite strawberries for home gardens and market growers. This has to be the tops for best tasting strawberry! Fruits like an ever-bearing strawberry under certain conditions.  Works best in California and in southern states. Produces lots of huge, sweet fruit. 'Mignonette' is the tastiest red alpine variety in our opinion. It has moderate production of 1" long conical shaped fruit has an aroma and taste unlike anything you've ever experienced. Not as hardy as some of the other selections so mulch well for winter in colder zones.
