Summer Squash

Summer squash is harvested while immature when the rind is still tender and tasty. Nearly all summer squash squashes are varieties of Cucurbita pepo but not all Cucurbita pepo are considered summer squashes. Most summer squash have a bushy growth habit and shorter shelf life as compared to the vining, long fruit storage of winter squash.

The Marrow Segev Squash has a small growth habit with great, big yields! This type of squash matures in just 47 days and produces spineless, creamy green fruits. This variety is a parthenocarpic squash so no pollination is needed. The Marrow Segev is known for its rich flavor and white flesh that is resistant to powdery mildew.

The Caserta Zucchini is an early bush cocozelle that was a 1949 AAS winner. This spiny semi-open cut leaf plant can set 30 cylindrical slightly tapered fruits. This variety has a thin light-green skin with dark-green stripes and a firm creamy-white flesh, making it perfect for baking! Pick Caserta when 4-6 in. x 2-3.5 in. for the most tender and delicious taste!

The Italian Cocozelle is a bush type of squash plant that produces high yields of the long, tender, dark green fruits. This Italian zucchini is very flavorful and tender. This variety is best when harvested at 12" long or smaller. The Cocozelle is excellent for slicing, frying, and steaming and is also a good freezing and canning variety. Pick often when the squash is young to prolong harvest. Harvesting zucchini when it is young and tender offers the best flavor and eating quality. The Scallop Early White Squash, also known as Patty Pan, tastes great when harvested early at smaller size. This variety produces good yields of white squash. The Scallop Early White is very easy to grow and is rarely bothered by insects. The Scallop Early White is a bush type of squash that has a creamy texture that is very flavorful, suitable for both small home gardens and market growers.

Just like its name, the Round Zucchini is an unusually shaped round variety. This Zucchini is great roasted in salads, baked, stuffed, stir-fried or made into zucchini bread. The mini, tender and delicious Round works especially well for stuffed zucchini recipes because of its unusual shape.

The Dark Green Zucchini is the darkest and most tender zucchini we have! This variety has a smooth, straight, green outer skin with a creamy white flesh. Pick at 6-8" for an even more tender flesh, that is perfect for baking into stews or making zucchini bread.

The Scallop Blend Squash is a wonderful mixture of unique yellow, white, and green scallops. This fun blend is perfect for home gardeners. Growing the unique, colorful Scallop Blend will give you a mix of different tastes, maturity times and colors in your garden.

The Black Coral F1 Squash is a dark black zucchini hybrid with a glossy skin that is excellent when steamed, roasted or fried. This variety is a heavy yielder and has a great mildew tolerance. This squash grows to be 7-8 inches long on an open bush habit, making it great for easy picking.

The Yellow Crookneck Squash is the perfect summer squash that has a mild, sweet and full flavored taste. The perfect time to pick this variety is when its young and about 6 inches in size. The inside of the Yellow Crookneck is very tender with a creamy consistency.

The Spineless Beauty means no more spiky hairs on your zucchinis! This zucchini variety is spineless so no more watering eyes when harvesting your zucchinis. This very flavorful and tender zucchini stores well and has juicy flesh that is great for cooking.

The Early Prolific Straightneck Squash is a summer squash that is very popular in the United States. This variety is a tasty, bright yellow, straight-necked type squash that tapers towards the stem end. Harvest this squash at 12-14 inches long but are more tender and succulent when they are 5-6 inches long. In 1938, the Early Prolific Straightneck was an All-American Selection winner!
