The Tall Mix Morning Glory is a combination of beautifully colored morning glories with heart shaped leaves and fuzzy vines that are super easy to grow! The Morning Glory is one of the most popular flowering vines and this variety produces a profusion of 4" inch, trumpet shaped flowers of indigo blue, maroon and white. These tall vines can grow up to 10+ feet tall! This mix blooms during the early morning hours and closes once the afternoon sun reaches them. The Tall Mix is attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies and also easily self-seeds.

Before planting Morning Glory, select a full-sun location with average, well-drained soil; overly rich soil encourages foliage instead of flowers. Prepare the bed lightly and install a trellis before sowing. Nick or lightly scarify the hard seed coat and soak seed overnight to encourage faster, more uniform germination.

Planting

Direct sow morning glory after frost danger has passed and the soil is warm, or start it indoors 3–4 weeks earlier in individual biodegradable pots. Maintain warmth and even moisture until emergence. Harden seedlings carefully and transplant without disturbing the roots. Thin direct-sown plants after true leaves develop and guide young vines onto their support promptly.

Watering

Once established, morning glory prefers deep, infrequent watering. Let the surface dry between irrigations, supply extra moisture during extended heat, and avoid keeping the crown continuously wet.

Fertilizer

Feed morning glory lightly after establishment with a balanced fertilizer. Repeat only if flowering or growth weakens; rich nitrogen feeding causes soft stems and delayed blooms.

Harvesting

Morning Glory flowers are ready when stems are firm and blooms show mature color without fading. Cut during cool, dry conditions; for seed, leave selected heads until brown and dry.

Tips

Provide a sturdy support and guide young vines before they tangle with nearby plants. Morning glory can self-sow aggressively, so remove seed pods where volunteers are unwanted; seeds are toxic if ingested.

Morning glory can carry rust, leaf spots, white blister, stem rot, and mosaic viruses. Remove vines with persistent mottling or distorted new growth and do not save their seed. Thin volunteers, rotate away from related Ipomoea crops, and clear diseased vines before they reseed or overwinter pathogens.

Morning Glory can attract aphids, thrips, spider mites, Japanese beetles, and slugs. Scout flowers and new growth regularly, handpick when practical, and protect beneficial insects with targeted controls.
