How it is calculated

Row length becomes planting stations

The calculator divides your total row length by the chosen in-row spacing, then adds the safety percentage you select.

Seed quantity = (total row inches ÷ spacing) × (1 + allowance)

Use the result wisely

A planning estimate, not a packet label

  • Choose transplants when ordering young plants rather than seed.
  • Direct-sown crops often need extra seed for germination and thinning.
  • Planting in hills, bands, or multiple seeds per station may require more.
  • The variety packet's spacing and seed count should take priority.
