Nelumbo
Nelumbo plants, commonly known as lotus, are aquatic perennials recognized for their large, round leaves and showy flowers. Their leaves and blossoms rise above the water on sturdy stems, creating a striking display in ponds and water gardens. Lotus plants thrive in full sun and warm, still, shallow water with rich soil. After flowering, they produce distinctive seed pods containing large, hard-coated seeds. Established plants spread through underwater rhizomes and may form impressive colonies.
