Redwood
Coast redwood towers among the tallest trees on Earth, while dawn redwood is a deciduous living fossil once known only from fossil records. Both have soft, feathery foliage and fibrous, reddish bark that give them a graceful yet majestic presence. Young trees grow fast, forming handsome pyramids for parks, large lawns, and screens, and some tolerate moist or wet soils. They also make fascinating bonsai and container projects. Redwood seed is small and only a portion of it sprouts naturally, so sow generously on a moist mix.
