With dense, upright growth and flattened sprays of fragrant green foliage, American arborvitae is a go-to evergreen for living walls. Planted in rows, it forms privacy screens, hedges, and windbreaks that keep their shape and color in every season. This native conifer is exceptionally cold hardy and tolerates moist ground that many other evergreens dislike. Songbirds tuck into its thick branches for nesting and winter shelter.
