Azalea

Flame azalea sets woodland edges glowing in spring with clusters of orange, yellow, and red trumpet flowers. Azaleas thrive in acidic, well-drained soil and dappled shade, pairing naturally with woodland gardens, borders, and shady foundation beds. Hummingbirds and butterflies visit the tubular blossoms, especially on native species like this one. Azalea seed is as fine as dust and must be pressed onto the surface of the mix, never buried, because it needs light to sprout. Each seedling may show slightly different flower shades, giving a seed-grown planting natural variety.
