Tree Peony
Some of the largest and most spectacular spring blooms come from tree peonies, woody shrubs with huge, silky flowers in a range of forms and colors. Divided foliage stays handsome after flowering, giving them lasting appeal in borders and cottage gardens. Established plants are long-lived, thriving for many decades, and the blossoms make striking cut flowers. Raising tree peonies from seed is a long project, since roots and shoots emerge in separate seasons and blooms take several years, but every seedling produces its own unique flower.
