Cranberrybush
Flowers, fruit, and foliage take turns on American cranberrybush, a hardy viburnum with something to offer from spring to winter. Flat white lacecap blooms open in late spring, followed by glossy red berries that persist into the cold months. Leaves turn rich red and purple in fall for a dramatic finale. Use it for hedges, screens, and wildlife plantings, and cook the tart berries into jellies and sauces. Viburnum seed carries a double dormancy, so it often sits through one full season before sprouting the next.
