Key Attributes
About Red Japanese, Maple Seed
Layered, graceful branches on this small tree carry rich burgundy-red foliage that brings deep color to the garden. Red Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum atropurpureum) is collected from red-leaved parents, so many seedlings show deep purple-red leaves in spring that mellow through summer and flare crimson in fall. Its fine, lacy texture and elegant shape make it a favorite for patios, Japanese-style gardens, containers and bonsai. Each seedling is a little different, which adds to the charm.
