About Pyrus communis, Pear Seed
Bartlett, D'Anjou and Beurre Hardy are among the classic European varieties behind Pear Grafting Mix, a blend of seed gathered from several of these favorites. Pyrus communis seedlings grow into sturdy, vigorous young trees that are ideal as rootstock for grafting your favorite pear varieties. Seedlings also make tough, white-blooming trees for wildlife plantings, though their fruit will vary and not match the parent varieties.

Pests & Diseases
Fire blight is the most serious pear disease; prune out blackened shoots well below the damage and sterilize tools. Pear scab and leaf spot can appear in wet springs. Good air flow helps prevent disease.
Pear psylla, codling moth and aphids are common pests on established trees. Protect young trunks from rabbits and voles with guards. Monitor new growth in spring.
