Tips
Pests & Diseases
Powdery mildew, leaf spots, rust, and stem canker commonly affect phlox. Choose mildew-resistant cultivars, thin stems early, and remove lower infected leaves. Do not divide plants with dark crown lesions. Cut diseased tops after frost and relocate crowded clumps where morning sun dries foliage.
Monitor phlox for aphids, thrips, mites, beetles, slugs, and chewing caterpillars. Remove badly infested growth, use physical controls first, and apply labeled treatments outside pollinator-active hours.

Its Role in the Native Ecosystem
Moody Blues is a cultivated annual phlox selection that adds seasonal flowers for visiting butterflies and other pollinators. Its low growth creates a flowering layer near the front of a planting. Pair it with regionally appropriate perennial flowers and caterpillar host plants for a more complete habitat.
Moody Blues Phlox Native Range Map
Native range describes natural occurrence, not the origin of this seed lot or every location where a plant can be grown.
Alaska and Hawaii are shown as insets. State-level range does not mean a plant occurs throughout every part of that state.
