Minowase is a classic Japanese daikon producing smooth white roots that can reach 12–18 inches long. Crisp, juicy flesh has a mild, slightly sweet flavor with a gentle peppery finish. Before Planting

Give Radish a full-sun site with deep, loose, well-drained soil. Remove stones, clods, roots, and undecomposed organic matter, then work the bed to a fine texture so radish roots can develop evenly. Avoid fresh manure and excessive nitrogen, and correct soil fertility only as indicated by a soil test.

Planting

Direct sow radishes in cool soil from early spring, repeating small plantings every 1–2 weeks until warm weather. Sow again in late summer for a fall crop. Maintain consistent moisture during emergence and thin promptly after seedlings develop their first true leaves. Thin round radishes to about 2 inches apart and large daikon types to 4–6 inches.

Watering

Maintain consistent moisture around developing radish roots. Water gently and deeply during dry weather, avoiding both drought stress and sudden heavy irrigation that may split or distort the crop.

Fertilizer

Feed radish sparingly with a balanced fertilizer when soil fertility is low. Too much nitrogen produces lush tops, delayed roots, and inferior shape or flavor.

Harvesting
