About Elephant, Garlic Bulbs
Elephant is certified and the largest "garlic" you can get! This variety of "garlic" looks like garlic and tastes like a mild hardneck type, but it is actually a type of leek. Just like its name, Elephant is large with 1 1/2" cloves that have a great mild garlic-like flavor. Elephant's bulbs can easily weigh a pound or more! This variety is very easy peeling and keeps very well. Each bulb averages 3-5 cloves. Approximately 9-14 garlic cloves per pound.

White rot, Fusarium basal rot, Botrytis neck rot, and viruses often arrive on garlic bulbs. Plant only firm, clean cloves from trusted stock. Yellowing with white growth and tiny black bodies near the base indicates white rot; remove plants and soil carefully, sanitize tools, and never move bulbs from that bed.
Onion maggots, bulb mites, nematodes, thrips, white rot, and basal rot may affect garlic. Plant clean stock, rotate alliums for several years, avoid moving contaminated soil, and discard bulbs with soft or moldy tissue.
