Pests & Diseases
False indigo is normally durable but may develop powdery mildew, rust, leaf spots, or crown rot in crowded, wet sites. Because mature plants resent disturbance, correct drainage before planting. Remove infected top growth after dormancy and leave healthy crowns intact; do not divide plants merely for cosmetic leaf spotting.
Aphids, bean beetles, pea weevils, leafhoppers, cutworms, and spider mites may attack false indigo. Inspect leaf undersides and pods, handpick beetles, control weeds, and rotate legume plantings.

Its Role in the Native Ecosystem
Blue False Indigo supports native food webs beyond its spring flowers: its foliage feeds several butterfly caterpillars, including wild indigo duskywings. The long-lived clump adds lasting structure to a sunny planting. Protecting the foliage from unnecessary insecticide use helps preserve this host-plant role.
Blue False Indigo Native Range Map
Native range describes natural occurrence, not the origin of this seed lot or every location where a plant can be grown.
Alaska and Hawaii are shown as insets. State-level range does not mean a plant occurs throughout every part of that state.
