Prepare a fine, firm seedbed. Because light aids germination, prepare to surface sow or press seed into the medium without a heavy covering.

Planting

Start petunias indoors 10–12 weeks before the last spring frost. Press the tiny, light-requiring seed onto moist sterile medium, maintain 70–75°F, and prevent the surface from drying. Provide bright light immediately after emergence and thin to one seedling per cell. Harden plants gradually and transplant after hard frost danger passes, avoiding damage to the tender stems.

Watering

Water petunia deeply whenever rainfall is insufficient, maintaining steady moisture through flowering. Ensure drainage is free and direct irrigation toward the soil rather than the leaves.

Fertilizer
