Before Planting

Lisianthus benefits from a full-sun site with fertile, well-drained soil and good air circulation. Incorporate compost without creating an overly rich bed, and keep soil pH near neutral based on a soil test. Because seedlings develop slowly, start with clean plug mix well in advance and avoid burying the tiny, light-requiring seed.

Planting

Start lisianthus indoors 12–16 weeks before the last frost, surface-sowing the tiny seed under light. Space transplants 4–8 inches apart. Keep the medium near 70–75°F, evenly moist, and brightly lit; harden seedlings gradually before transplanting.

Watering

Lisianthus flowers best with steady root-zone moisture. Irrigate deeply during dry periods, allowing slight surface drying between waterings and keeping water off leaves whenever practical.

Fertilizer

Lisianthus needs only moderate feeding. Use diluted balanced fertilizer during active growth, following label rates and limiting nitrogen so plants remain compact and flower freely.

Harvesting
