Site anemone corms in humus-rich soil that drains freely, with sun in cool climates or afternoon shade in warm regions. Soak dry corms for three to four hours, then pre-sprout if an earlier, more uniform stand is desired.

Planting

Plant prepared anemone corms in fall in mild climates or in early spring where winters are severe. Set them with the pointed end down when it is visible; orientation is not critical when it is unclear. Water once to settle the soil, then keep it lightly moist as growth begins. Container-started corms may be transplanted carefully after roots develop.

After planting, settle the soil once and keep it lightly moist while roots form. Increase water during leafy growth and flowering, but never allow standing water; taper irrigation when foliage yellows and dormancy begins.

Fertilizer

Harvesting

Pests & Diseases

Anemone corms are vulnerable to Botrytis blight, powdery or downy mildew, rust, and corm or root rots. Reject soft or moldy corms. Plant in freely drained soil, avoid excess irrigation, space plants for airflow, remove spotted or moldy foliage, and do not store lifted corms until fully dry.

Aphids and thrips hide in anemone buds, leafminers tunnel through foliage, and slugs attack emerging growth. Inspect buds before harvest, remove mined leaves, and use slug barriers early. Avoid wetting flowers late in the day, which encourages damage and complicates pest scouting.
