Living stone plants (Lithops species) are native to South Africa, where they grow among rocks. Aucampiae lithops are succulents with brown skin tones. Living stones are small plants, often only 1/2" to 1" in diameter. Very little water is needed and oo much water can kill the plants. Yellow or white flowers appear towards the end of the growing season. Generally grown as houseplants.

Lithops chiefly suffer bacterial or fungal soft rot caused by excess moisture, especially during dormancy or splitting. A translucent, mushy body cannot be saved and should be isolated immediately. Use sterile mineral mix, keep the crown dry, and water only during the species’ active cycle—not by a calendar.
Mealybugs and root mealybugs are the principal lithops pests. Inspect leaf crevices and roots during repotting, isolate affected plants, remove pests manually, and use a labeled succulent-safe treatment if necessary.
