Harvest, cure, store

Days to maturity are counted from direct sowing to mature fruit. Harvest before hard frost, when the rind resists a fingernail and the stem is corky, leaving 2–3 inches of stem. Cure butternut, Hubbard and kuri types 10–14 days in a warm spot (80–85°F), then store at 50–55°F. Acorn and delicata skip curing and keep 2–3 months.

Fruit sizes and plant habits are typical values from breeders and seed trials; results vary with growing conditions. Vining types need 6–10 feet to roam; bush and semi-bush types suit smaller gardens. A dash (—) means no resistance is published for that variety.
