Pick small, pick often

Days to maturity are counted from direct sowing to first harvest. Summer squash is most tender when small: zucchini and straightnecks at 6–8 inches, pattypans and round types at 2–4 inches. Check plants every day or two in peak season; missed fruits grow fast and slow down new production.

Harvest sizes and plant habits are typical values from breeders and seed trials; results vary with growing conditions. Spineless and open-habit varieties are easier to pick. A dash (—) means no resistance is published for that variety.
