Wapsie Valley heirloom corn is a traditional variety that hails from the Wapsipinicon River Valley in Iowa. An old heirloom from Virginian that has gained in popularity over the years. It grows to over 6' tall and is a high yielder of leaves averaging 20" inches long by 12" wide. Used mainly as a cigarette tobacco for its mild flavor, or as a pipe blend.

Jimmy Nardello pepper seeds produce a classic Italian heirloom sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum) brought to the United States in 1887 by Giuseppe and Angela Nardello from the coastal region of southern Italy and later popularized by their son, Jimmy, in Naugatuck, Connecticut. This open-pollinated variety is known for its long, slender, deeply ridged fruits that typically reach 6–10 inches in length and ripen from green to a vibrant glossy red.

Violet is a French heirloom with fine flavor! Beautiful purple buds that are lovely on the big, ornamental plants, especially when the buds open. Rare outside Europe. Large silver-green foliage anchors edible garden borders. Unharvested buds open into dramatic thistle-like flowers. French heirloom genetics bring uncommon European character.

Hot Portugal peppers are a vibrant, mildly spicy variety of chili peppers that are prized for their unique flavor and versatility in the kitchen. Typically growing between 3,000 to 5,000 Scoville heat units, these peppers offer a moderate heat level that is perfect for adding a kick to dishes without overwhelming the palate. Black Amber is a broom corn used for decoration and bird seed. An heirloom sorghum also known as Texas Black Amber Molasses. Stalks were used for forage, silage and sorghum syrup, due to a high sugar content and were used to replace sugar cane. Seed heads are similar to corn tassels but, consist of shiny black hulls encasing amber colored seeds.

The Pruden's Purple Tomato, also known as Prudence, is considered to be one of the best heirloom beefsteak tomatoes in America! This tomato variety is an indeterminate, potato leaf plant that has heavy yields of 10-16 ounce, dark pink fruits. Pruden's Purple produces only very few seeds and is widely adapted. This seed is certified organic.

The Moon and Stars Watermelon is a popular heirloom variety that is named for its yellow "moon" and "stars" skin pattern! This mouth watering watermelon was introduced by the Henderson seed company in 1926. Ever since its introduction, this variety has been a staple for many gardeners. The Moon and Stars Watermelon has a deep green skin with lots of yellow "stars" and a few "moons" with a yellow, juicy and sweet flesh. This seed is certified organic.

Comstock Spanish is an heirloom variety classified as a cigar binder but also makes an excellent wrapper. It was developed in Wisconsin in the late 1800's after the civil war. It is believed it was developed from Wisconsin Havana Seed but was called a "spanish" variety, named after a pioneer grower. It grows to a height of 4 1/2' with leaves 12"-14" wide and 24"-26" long. Plants average 20-22 harvestable leaves which are strong and have good elasticity when cured. The leaves droop downward with down turned edges when ripe.

Dating back to the 1800s, Hailstone is a classic heirloom radish prized for its exceptionally fast maturity. This variety produces small, round, snow-white roots that resemble tiny hailstones, with compact tops and slender taproots that make it ideal for close spacing. The crisp 1–1½ inch globes offer a bright, tangy flavor with a pleasant pungency, and the firm white flesh stays fresh and appealing longer than many other radishes.

The Golden Beauty Casaba Melon has a creamy white aromatic spicy flesh! This heirloom melon, also known as the "Casaba Fruit," has a rind that matures gold. Golden Beauty Casaba is an 8 lb. variety that is very heat tolerant.

Jackson Wonder bush lima beans are a treasured heirloom variety with deep roots in Southern agriculture, particularly celebrated in the early 20th century. Known for their compact, bush-type growth habit, these beans typically reach heights of 18 to 24 inches, making them ideal for small gardens and easy to manage without support. The beans are characterized by their creamy white color, often with subtle greenish hues, and they grow in smooth, straight pods.

Thomas Laxton is an heirloom pea plant that is big and productive. At Urban Farmer we have trialed these a few times and they are always are favorite shelling pea. The peas are always sugary and delicious. This pea variety is named after the famous pea breeder, Thomas Laxton. This old heirloom pea is over a century old and has withstood the test of time. Each pod contains at least 8 peas and often up to 10! Make sure to support the Thomas Laxton's 3' vines with a trellis.

One Sucker is a dark air cured heirloom tobacco. It grows 4-5' in height with dark green leaves. Long leaves that can reach upwards of 3'. It produces 15-16 leaves on average, frost resistance and excellent wind resistance.

The Long Purple eggplant is considered a favorite productive Italian type of eggplant! K. Bliss of New York. This variety produces good yields of mildly flavored eggplants that are 8-10" long by 2" wide. The Long Purple has a dark purple and glossy skin with pale white flesh that has few seeds. This variety is the most flavorful and tender when harvested young at 5-6" long.

Black Hungarian peppers are a unique and flavorful variety of chili peppers, known for their deep, dark purple to black color when fully ripe. These peppers are moderately hot, typically ranging between 5,000 to 10,000 Scoville heat units, and have a smoky, slightly sweet flavor that adds depth to a wide range of dishes. Originally from Hungary, they are often used in traditional Hungarian recipes, including goulash, stews, and pickles.

The prolific Louisiana Long Green Eggplant is an attractive banana-shaped variety that has a delicious full-bodied nutty flavor. This Southern heirloom variety is best picked young, with its white slightly green-ish skin, for optimal texture and flavor. This tall eggplant plant produces 8-9 inch long fruits that are slender and easy to cook with.

The Blondkopfchen, aka Little Blonde Girl, is a delicious heirloom cherry tomato that comes from East Germany and has a delicious sugary flavor. This high yielding variety produces an abundance of small golden yellow 1" fruits that grow in giant clusters. The Blondkopfchen is one of the best tasting cherry tomatoes as it has a high sugar content, is crack resistant and produces well until the first frost.

The Big Gem Tobacco is an heirloom Bright Leaf variety that has a great production of over 25 large, bright green leaves per plant. This tobacco variety reaches 5.5' or more in height and each leaf can reach 30" long and 18" wide. The Big Gem is drought tolerant and sunburn resistant.

Walkers Broad Leaf is an heirloom cigar variety dating back to the 1880's, said to have originally been developed from the Maryland Broad Leaf. The leaves are from 12" to 16" wide and 20" to 24" in length, turning a light green and mottled when ripe. It can be used as a wrapper, binder or filler.

The Triple Curled Parsley has beautifully intense triple curled leaves with dark green stems that look great as a garnish. This is a popular variety that is easy to grow, clean and harvest.

The Crosby Egyptian Beet, a classic heirloom variety, has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Originating in Egypt, it was introduced to the United States in the 1860s and quickly gained popularity among gardeners and farmers. This beet variety has stood the test of time due to its exceptional taste and versatility in the kitchen.

The Connecticut Field pumpkin is a historic heirloom variety dating back to the 1700s, traditionally grown by Native Americans and among the earliest cultivated pumpkins in the United States. It produces large, round, bright orange fruits with shallow ribbing, typically weighing 15–25 pounds. Well-suited for gardens across much of North America, it thrives in full sun, well-drained soil, and requires ample space for its long vines to spread. Connecticut Field pumpkins are widely used for carving, seasonal decoration, and in cooking—especially for pies and purees—thanks to their classic shape and flavorful flesh.

This variety originated in the early 1901 in NC by a farmer named James Monroe Jarvis. This variety is prized for its robust growth, drought tolerance, and high nutritional value. The corn produces medium-sized ears with deep yellow kernels that are often used for making grits. Yellow Jarvis corn is particularly valued for its rich, sweet flavor. Its resilience in challenging environments and its rich heritage make it a sought-after choice for sustainable and heritage-focused farming practices.

Yellow Cónico corn is a traditional Mexican heirloom variety known for its distinctive, conical-shaped ears and vibrant yellow kernels. This Yellow Cónico is grown in the highlands of Atlacomulco in Estado de México and produces a light and lovely golden masa. This corn is highly prized for its versatility and excellent texture, making it ideal for a wide range of culinary uses, from making masa for tortillas and tamales to being ground into flour for baking.

Cow Horn Okra is one of the best flavored okras around that is great for pickling or gumbo! This variety produces larger pods than most okra and should be harvested young and tender. The best time to harvest Cow Horn is at 6," but it can remain spineless, crunchy and tender up to 10" long. This old heirloom okra dates all the way back to the early 1900's.
