Salvia can develop powdery mildew, Botrytis, rust, leaf spots, and white mold. Thin dense growth and remove spent flowers before gray mold develops. Plants collapsing above cottony growth with black resting bodies should be removed completely; avoid replanting susceptible flowers in that spot.
Scout salvia for sap-feeding aphids, thrips, and mites as well as beetles, slugs, and caterpillars. Handpick beetles and caterpillars, manage slugs near the soil surface, and protect pollinators when treating smaller pests.
