Hibiscus may suffer bacterial leaf spot, Botrytis, rust, cankers, and Phytophthora or Pythium root rot. Remove water-soaked leaves and prune cankers into healthy wood with disinfected tools. Container plants need open drainage; repeated yellowing in wet mix is a reason to inspect roots, not increase irrigation.
Hibiscus can attract aphids, thrips, spider mites, Japanese beetles, and slugs. Scout flowers and new growth regularly, handpick when practical, and protect beneficial insects with targeted controls.
