This contains a blend of sedum species that will do well on a green roof garden. Blended together to do well in zones 3-9. A green roof has many benefits that include alleviating flooding, noise reduction, thermal insulation, building aesthetics and creating a natural habitat for animals to live. Direct sow 1-2 grams per 20 sq.ft. of roof space. Contains 14-16 different Sedum species: Sedum acre, album, ellacombianum, floriferum, hispanicum, hybridum, montanum, oreganum, pulchellum, reflexum, selskianum, sexangulare, spurium, stoloniferum.

Confirm the roof system is engineered for the saturated weight, drainage, wind exposure, and local climate. Use a lightweight, free-draining green-roof medium rather than ordinary garden soil, and verify that waterproofing, root barrier, drainage layer, and edging are in place. Plan irrigation access for establishment and prolonged dry periods.

Planting

Sow, plug, or lay vegetated mats during mild weather when irrigation can be supplied reliably. Distribute each species according to the roof plan, then water gently to settle roots without washing the lightweight medium. Maintain consistent moisture through establishment while checking drains after irrigation. Thin or replace plants only where crowding or bare areas interfere with the intended coverage.

Watering

Water regularly during establishment and whenever the lightweight medium approaches dryness. Established plantings still need supplemental irrigation during prolonged heat or drought; apply gently and confirm that roof drains remain clear.

Fertilizer

Use only slow-release, low-nitrogen fertilizer formulated for green roofs, generally once in spring if needed. Excess fertility encourages weeds, soft growth, nutrient runoff, and excessive maintenance.

Tips

Inspect drains, edging, and exposed membrane regularly, especially after storms. Remove woody volunteers before roots enlarge, replace bare areas promptly, and avoid walking on saturated growing media.

Pests & Diseases

Disease depends on the species in a green-roof mix, but crown rot, Pythium, Botrytis, and foliar mildews increase where drainage outlets clog or mats stay dense. Inspect low spots first, remove collapsing patches, clear drains, and replace plants with species matched to the roof’s moisture and exposure.

Watch for aphids, vine weevils, slugs, and occasional rodents or nesting birds. Inspect stressed or thinning areas, remove pests manually, and avoid broad-spectrum treatments that could wash into roof drainage.
