Remove perennial weeds, loosen compacted ground, and incorporate modest compost without making the bed overly rich. Prepare a fine, firm seedbed. Because light aids germination, prepare to surface sow or press seed into the medium without a heavy covering.

Planting

Start snapdragons indoors 8–10 weeks before the last spring frost. Surface-sow the light-requiring seed, maintain about 65–70°F, and keep the medium evenly moist. After emergence, provide bright light and cooler conditions to prevent stretching. Thin to one seedling per cell, harden gradually, and transplant in early spring because established plants tolerate light frost.

Watering

Provide snapdragon with even moisture during active growth and flowering. Water deeply at soil level when the upper soil begins drying, avoiding both severe wilting and saturated conditions.

Fertilizer
