Arabian is a coffee plant with a compact, bushy and upright habit. Coffea arabica is appreciated for its attractive shiny, dark green leaves. This compact Coffea arabica makes for a great houseplant. Kept as a houseplant, it’s unlikely to produce its scented flowers and its coffee bean containing fruits, but it is for sure a great conversation starter. Also helps purify the air indoors. Seed Germination: soak the beans for 48 hours before sowing. After soaking, place the seeds on top of the planting medium but do not cover them as light facilitates seed germination. Choose a warm location with bright, filtered light, high humidity, and protection from cold drafts and harsh afternoon sun. Prepare a slightly acidic, organic-rich potting mix that drains freely, and use a container with drainage holes. Soak fresh seed before sowing and maintain consistently warm conditions.

Planting

Sow fresh coffee seed indoors in warm media around 75–80°F, placing the flat side down and maintaining steady moisture without saturation. Germination may take several weeks or longer, so do not discard containers early. Provide bright, filtered light after emergence. Pot seedlings individually once they are sturdy enough to handle, protecting their roots during the move.

Watering

Keep the potting mix consistently moist but not saturated, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings. Use room-temperature water and empty drainage saucers so roots never stand in water.

Fertilizer

Apply a diluted, balanced fertilizer with micronutrients during active spring and summer growth. Reduce feeding in winter and periodically flush containers to prevent soluble-salt accumulation.

Harvesting

Harvest coffee cherries individually when they develop full, even color—usually deep red or yellow according to variety—and feel firm and ripe. Pick selectively because fruit on the same branch often matures at different times.

Coffee seedlings may suffer damping-off, Cercospora leaf spot, coffee leaf rust, and root rot. Rust produces yellow-orange powder beneath leaves. Use clean seed and mix, isolate affected plants, and avoid bringing outdoor coffee plants beside clean indoor stock. Balanced shade and nutrition reduce Cercospora-related leaf drop.

Inspect coffee plants for scale, mealybugs, spider mites, and coffee berry borers where fruit is produced. Isolate infestations, wipe accessible pests away, and use horticultural oil as labeled.
