Tips
Pests & Diseases
Rust, powdery mildew, leaf spots, and aster yellows occur on goldenrod. Most foliar disease is cosmetic; cut infected stems after bloom. Remove entire plants with distorted green flower clusters because aster yellows persists systemically. Thin spreading colonies and control leafhoppers where the disease repeatedly appears.
Aphids and thrips may cluster on goldenrod buds, while mites, Japanese beetles, slugs, and caterpillars feed elsewhere. Remove badly damaged growth, collect visible pests, and choose pollinator-conscious controls only when monitoring shows a need.

Its Role in the Native Ecosystem
Stiff Goldenrod provides a late-season feeding place for many insects, including bees, wasps, flies, butterflies and beetles. Its clustered flowers add useful floral resources as earlier meadow plants finish blooming. Keep some stems and seed heads standing to retain the planting’s structure beyond the flowering season.
Stiff Goldenrod Native Range Map
Native range describes natural occurrence, not the origin of this seed lot or every location where a plant can be grown.
Alaska and Hawaii are shown as insets. State-level range does not mean a plant occurs throughout every part of that state.
