Green, distorted flower cones and excessive leafy growth indicate aster yellows; the plant cannot be cured and should be removed promptly. Control leafhoppers and weeds, divide crowded clumps, and keep winter moisture away from crowns.
Monitor coneflower for aphids, thrips, mites, beetles, slugs, and chewing caterpillars. Remove badly infested growth, use physical controls first, and apply labeled treatments outside pollinator-active hours.
