Homemade Tomato SauceNothing taste better than fresh tomato sauce using the tomatoes from your home garden. This recipe is an old time favorite that will be a crowd pleaser. One of the most simple but best tasting tomato sauces around!

What You Need
6 med. tomatoes, peeled & chopped
1 large green onion, chopped
2 tbsp. minced parsley
2 tsp. red wine vinegar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. fresh basil
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/4 c. olive oil
3 med. garlic, cloves, sliced
8 oz pkg. of spaghetti


Boil tomatoes to remove skin
Boiling TomatoesBegin by placing your tomatoes in boiling water for 1-2 minutes. Watch the skins while boiling and when they begin to burst open remove from water and place in ice water immediately. Allow the tomatoes to cool down for a few minutes and then begin to remove skins. They should easily peel off leaving the inside flesh.


Remove all seeds and chop tomatoes

Cut Tomatoes for SalsaNow chop the tomatoes into quarters or eighths and begin removing seeds. This may be the most time consuming part of making salsa. Try using a spoon and scooping out each lobe full of seeds. Once the seeds have been removed start dicing your tomato flesh into small bite size pieces.

Boil these ingredients for 3 hours or longer!
Boiling Tomato SauceIn a large pot begin boiling tomatoes, green onion, parsley, red wine, salt, sugar, basil, and pepper. Boil for 3 hours or longer depending on consistency.




Use olive oil to brown garlic then combine with sauce.
Cooking GarlicAfter starting to boil the main ingredients, place the garlic in a pan of hot olive oil. Brown garlic and then pour both olive oil and garlic into boiling sauce.




Cook spaghetti noodles and pour sauce on top!

Spaghetti sauce from scratchAbout 30 minutes before serving: In 6 quart saucepan prepare spaghetti as label directs. Drain; return to saucepan; add tomato sauce. Heat mixture just until tomato sauce is hot. Makes 6 accompaniment servings.
