The easiest of the cabbage cousins to grow, kale is tolerant to most cold climates. Seedlings started indoors can be set out almost an entire month before the last frost date of your area. The spring crop will produce beautiful cooking greens in early summer. Grab the larger leaves once a week and your kale plant will grow new ones within a week!
Most gardener's pull up their spring crop when weather turns hot and can be replanted in the fall. Kale plants can survive well into winter if roots are well grounded. To keep plant well into winter provide a tunnel cover when temperatures are expected to drop below 25ºF.
